Yesteryear Collection

This famous car is called the "Grosser Mercedes" and designed by Hans Nibel. It is distinguished by having been the state car of many dignitaries including Willem II and Emperor Hirohito. The car weighs over 3,5 tonnes with an overall length of 5818 mm. It is powered by a straight 8 cylinder engine of 7655cc giving 150bhp at 2800rpm plus 20 bhp with the supercharger engaged. This model was based entirely on the original cars kept at Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.

The Mercedes-Benz 770 is a large luxury car built in Germany from 1930 to 1943. The car is mainly known for the use by the Nazi high ranking officers during the 2nd world war. A total of 205 of these cars were built.

The (Y40-1) 1931 Mercedes Benz 770 or "Grosser Mercedes" joined the range in 1991 in the authentic grey and blue colours of a vehicle on display in the in the Mercedes Benz Motor Museum at Stuttgart in Germany.

Comments/Features: The model was originally intended to be the number Y53 as inscribed on the inside of the clear plastic roof panel but for reasons unknown it was eventually released with the Y40 designation on the baseplate.

Unsold stock from the 1991 production run was included in the 1994 re-run as part of the "Grand Classics Collection".

Variations/Rarities: It only appeared in the one colour scheme of grey and blue which probably has something to do with previous Grosser owners being a certain Mr Adolf Hitler and Mr Hermann Göring so I don't think we can expect a recolour anytime soon.
